ASTROLOGICAL ASPECTS: HOW PLANETS RELATE TO EACH OTHER
When I first came to aspects, they were the one part of astrology that didn’t immediately click. I understood signs and houses intuitively, but the moment my mentor said “relationships between planets,” I suddenly had to remember geometry?! Degrees, angles, and orbs (well, fuck). It felt abstract at first, technical in a way that didn’t match the emotional depth I was drawn to, or so I tell myself. My brain was simply no comprénde.
It took me a while to understand that the numbers weren’t the point (still, very important); they were simply the architecture beneath the behaviour.
Aspects describe how planetary drives interact: some merge into one force (conjunction), some pull between competing priorities (opposition), some create friction that stretches you (square), some move with natural ease (trine), and some open subtle potentials waiting to be activated (sextile).
Nothing in a chart operates alone. Every planet is in conversation, influencing and responding to whatever it comes into contact with. Aspects map these exchanges, showing the internal dynamics that shape experience, whether they appear as alignment, tension, or latent opportunity.
Some of these interactions are smooth, some are messy, and some carry quiet potential that needs attention to surface. None of them is moralised as good or bad. They’re simply descriptions of how your inner architecture is wired to move.
Below are the main aspects and the qualities they tend to express within a birth chart.
